Optical Applications of Thiessen Polygons

What is a Thiessen polygon?

Saxian Sen. Tyson polygon is also called Voronoi diagram (Voronoi diagram), named after Georgy Voronoi, is a special form of space division.

Its internal logic is a set of continuous polygons composed of vertical bisectors connecting two adjacent point line segments. The distance from any point in a Thiessen polygon to the control point that constitutes the polygon is less than the distance to the control points of other polygons, and each Each polygon contains one and only one sample.

The unique and wonderful appearance of Tyson polygons has applications in architecture, etc. The appearance of the water cube and the landscape design of parks are all applied to Tyson polygons.

The principle of Tyson polygon light mixing:

At present, lenses on the market often use quadrilateral, hexagonal and other bead surfaces for light mixing, and these structures are all regular shapes.

The light emitted by the light source is subdivided by each small bead surface through the lens, and finally superimposed on the receiving surface to form a light spot. Bead surfaces of different shapes can map different light spots, so the bead surfaces with regular shapes such as quadrilaterals and hexagons are used. The formed light spot is also formed by the superposition of a plurality of quadrangular and hexagonal light spots.

The Thiessen polygon bead surface uses the inconsistent shape of each Thiessen polygon to superimpose to form a light spot. When the bead surface has a sufficient number, it can be superimposed to form a uniform circular light spot.

Spot Contrast

The figure below shows the light spot formed by the superposition of three bead surfaces: quadrilateral, hexagon and Thiessen polygon, and the number of bead surfaces and the radius R of the three types of bead surfaces are the same under the same light-emitting area.

Tyson Polygon Bead Face

From the comparison of the three light spots in the above picture, it is obvious that the light spot formed by the superposition of the Tyson polygons in the right picture is closer to a circle, and the light spot will be more uniform. It can be seen that the light mixing ability of the Tyson polygon bead surface is stronger.
